The photo above would be a much bolder blue than I had in mind, but it still doesn't look bad at all. It looks great with the butcher block counters, too!

I have had the photo above in my inspiration folder on my computer for what seems like forever. I just LOVE this kitchen! I know the cabinets aren't blue, but I love the blue door. I don't have a pantry that I can do a screen door like this with, but I do have a door in my kitchen, which leads me to my next idea!
What about a bold blue door?
The door in my kitchen leads out to the carport, so it wouldn't matter if I went bold with it or not from the outside. Not many people would see it, but I was thinking of painting the interior of the door blue, too. My original plan is to get a french door like the one on the front of my house, so this is still up in the air, too!

I love how the door adds just the right amount of color to the room.
Ok, so what do you think?
Keep the cabinets an antique white like they are now?

Paint them back white the way they were?
Paint them blue?

Or just paint the door blue? Leave the door alone?
I sort of have a feeling of what I want to do, but wanted to hear if anyone else had any input, too. :)
And like I said, I'm not working on a lot of projects right now, especially compared to when I first moved in, but when the weather warms up, I'm hoping to get a lot accomplished!

Ok, I LOVE the soft sea blue cabinets look. SO pretty. But if you're gun-shy about taking the leap to paint em all over, that blue door could be really kind of awesome as well. I love my kitchen (it's a mix of a couple yellows . . . one is called Spiced Applesauce, black, and gray), but those pics make me want to paint my cabinets blue! WOW. Looking forward to seeing what you decide.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the cabinets in the from House to Home pic. It's just beautiful! I think the room could pull it off beautifully if you had wood floors.... makes me wish I had wood floors in my kitchen... and non-yellow paint throughout. LOL!
I seriously always love your decorating ideas! So refreshing and clean and simple, but not ordinary.
hmmmmm I love the blue cabinets and I think it would make your kitchen look a little different. Unexpected but fun!
I love the idea of the blue cabinets like in the House to Home pics. Really nice. I am impressed that you'd take on such a project because painting cabinets seems so unpleasant!
I love the blue cabinets! Go for it!
If you LOVE the sea-theme color scheme.....go with the blue. With your white appliances you could really sharpen up the room.
Go on paint them blue ... you know you want to :)
I like the 1st photo's color the best :) it is such a pretty sea blue. I think it will look wonderful in your kitchen! :)
I say do them blue like the first picture! It's dramatic, yet soft. I live in an apartment, or I would totally do something like that. I love anything blue...I added some old blue windows to my walls just to get my fix of blue :)

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...........those blue cabinets are beautiful. I say go for it!!!!!
The soft sea blue is gorgeous. I agree with geniesjourney...the blue would be nice with hardwood floors. Personally,I think the blue is wonderful but a bit risky. The cream color or even white cabinets are clean, crisp and neutral. The nice thing about neutral is that you could easily change the accessories for a different look and as often as you wish. So,if you get tired of the blue you can easily add a different accent color. For example:use some of the same blue dishes and intermix them with the ones on your two wall shelves. What about the island!..I know you mentioned something before about moving the table and chairs into a dining area and possibly getting a kitchen island...maybe, a soft sea blue painted island is the way to go.
Good Luck! Love your decorating style!!!
I wanted to paint my cabinets a greenish blue color and my husband had a fit...he wanted black...I painted them white. They look great but I painted my walls green as a compromise. I still like it but I really love color on cabinets and I also love top one color the the bottom another. Great options shown here.
I love Lea's idea in her comment! I say, white cabinets with a blue door and a blue island. Lovely! And easier to change if you get tired of the blue. :)
I say paint the door and add color with other items before painting the cabinets again. I like your kitchen with its neutral background.. possibilities of adding color to are endless.
I would either go for a pale blue kitchen island or paint only the bottom cabinets pale blue. That would be beautiful. Have you considered painting the hinges as well, to blend more in, and give a calmer look? I would also consider removing some of the top cabinets for an airier feeling. Whatever you choose, I'm sure it will be beautiful. You got great taste, and I love your blog.
I would paint the door blue, you can accent with colour if you need to, but I like the colour of your cabinets now, and it's only one door. I think it would look cool..
Good Luck!
Go for it...paint the door BLUE! I just painted a door in our kitchen a sage green and I love it!
Paint the DOOR blue! It's an easy project and easy to repaint if/when you need a change again. (You JUST painted the cabinets white and are now looking to change them--you might get tired of the blue ones that soon, too.)
And I think the blue cabinets will draw attention to your white applicances and put too much focus on them and not the overall look of the room.
I would go with a weathered blue. I think it would look great in your kitchen.
What if you just painted the bottom cabinets blue and left the upper cabinets as is and/or remove some of the doors on the upper cabinets for an open shelving look? Then it's a more subtle blue....And maybe do a bolder blue on the door??
I would go back to the white cabinets, paint the door blue and use blue accents to tie them together. But, that's just me! :)
I'm sure you will love whatever you decide to do in there!
I totally love the deeper blue color..not the soft sea blue...I would go for that color on the cabinets AND the door...the rest of your kitchen is painted such a basic color that you can go with a bold color on the cabinets and door i think...the butcher block countertops would most def POP out more too! go for it! :)
Paint the door! It would look great.
I would paint the door.
Your cabinets look great and I agree with Lea, if you had wood flooring the blue would look fabulous. Try accessorizing first with blue accents.
I personally like the white cabs to make the appliances and cabs a more single, built-together, cohesive unit. Then...
Strategically, take off some of the cab doors and paint the inside of those cabs blue. Decorate with earthy baskets & texture.
Wood floor. Blue door.
I say paint those cabinets blue!! Painted cabinets in a white painted kitchen are gorgeous! And if you paint them blue and you absolutely hate it, you can always paint them back to white, or even another color. Just go for it, though, and don't be afraid!! Have fun and enjoy your home!
Can't wait to see what you decide. :)
Beth.
I think blue would look great! -Dee
Blue cabinets all the way!!! lol
I didn't read all the comments, so I don't know if someone already said this. My vote is that you paint the bottom cabinets the blue, and maybe the door too. We're closing on our first home, and my plan is to do exactly that: paint the top cabinets white and the bottom cabinets a beautiful aqau-ey, light, happy, subtle blue. :) I love the hardware on your cabinets btw.
I say paint it blue...the bolder the better. I love the idea of the cupboards being the turquosey blue, but if that is too much for you...I'm all about the door! Then again that is one of my favourite decorating colours! :)
Reading through your comments, I see others have already suggested what I was going to: I've seen some lovely kitchens on blogs where they've painted only the lower cupboards a color and left the uppers white. I do love the first photo with the soft sea blue paint.
I also like the idea of either taking off some of the upper doors, or turning some of them into glass-fronted doors.
Since you really like to cook and spend a lot of time in your kitchen, I say make it as happy a place as you can :) If blue makes you happy, go for it!
I *love* the blue cabinets, but I feel like painting the door blue would add SO much interest to that part of the kitchen!
My vote is to paint the door blue, put the cabinets back to white, and remove a few doors from the uppers. Then you can add some gorgeous sea-glass toned pieces to the open cabinets! It would look gorgeous, and you'd be able to incorporate the different variants of blue in the bottles!
(As a side note - I totally own those five bottles in your color inspiration picture! Bought them all at a little local country store a few years back! How exciting to see them on your blog!)
BLUE!
I think that a pale soft sea blue or a pale french grey would be pretty. It seems that the cream is fighting with the floors and the other white that's in there.
If you went with the french grey, you could paint your door red and if you go with the sea blue, then green would be pretty.
You have a beautiful home and you're doing a great job transforming it!I especially love what you did in your bathroom.I have a bathroom very similar to yours and I would have never thought of using wall paper there. Thanks for all of your great ideas and Thanks for sharing!
